Amid tight security, polling began here today for Medak parliamentary constituency in Telangana and Nandigama (SC) in the electoral district of Andhra Pradesh Krishna meeting at 0700 hrs.

According Bhanwar Lal, Chief Electoral Officer, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, 15.43 lakh more voters to exercise their franchise in 1817 polling stations in Medak Lok Sabha seat and over 1.84 lakh voters that their votes in 200 polling constituency Assembly Nandigama.

In the recent general election, Medak LS constituency recorded 77.35 per poll, while the Constituency Assembly Nandigama recorded 84.9 percent of the vote.

The by-election to Medak Lok Sabha seat was necessitated following the resignation of Supreme K Chandrashekar Rao TRS, which become the first Chief Minister of Telangana state.

Similarly, the vacancy in Nandigama was caused by the death of sitting TDP MLA Prabhakar Rao Tangirala.

Elaborate arrangements, including tight security, have been made to ensure fair and peaceful election.

In addition to the implementation of more than 5,000 state police, 19 companies of Central Police Force have been deployed in Medak and Nandigama bypolls to ensure peaceful voting, said the CEO.

More than 11,000 polling personnel have been deployed on both seats.

Counting of votes will take place on September 16.

In all, 14 candidates contesting are struggling Medak Lok Sabha seat where the main fight is between three contesting parties - the TRS president, the Congress and the BJP, while in the Constituency Assembly Nandigama four candidates contesting.
