Former union minister M.K. Alagiri, who was suspended from the DMK, said he would not contend in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The Madurai MP said his stoppage was a prize given to him for asking justice.

"Democracy is dead in the DMK. If putting up posters amount to outraging party discipline, why no action was taken against those who put up posters hailing Stalin as future Chief Minister when party leader is alive," he told newsmen at his daughter's residence. Asked whether he would field rival candidates against official DMK candidates as he had done in the past he said there was no need as the DMK will be routed.
