Hyderabad: The BJP seems to be making quick moves to consolidate its position in Andhra Pradesh. AP unit of BJP is of the view that the YSRCP has failed to create a mark as an effective opposition party. The BJP should bridge the gap and emerge as a force to be reckoned with in 2019 when the state would go in the second general election.
As part of this exercise, the BJP is focusing on Reddy and BC communities are a major force in Andhra Pradesh. Kanna Lakshminarayana had already admitted a Kapu leader of Congress party in the fold. Now it has decided to rope in the last chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Reddy According to sources saffron party is joined by the merger of his party Samaikyandhra Jai (JSP) in February 2015.
Kiran, who has been in political hibernation since his party got severe beating in 2014 general elections, was making all out efforts to revive his political career, but was not even able to get the support of his own people constituency.
Close associates of Reddy told The Hans India that the prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah had given his approval to the former CM to join the BJP. Reddy initially planned to join the BJP in October, but postponed the date in view of the marriage of his daughter who is scheduled to be held in January. Sources said Reddy had assured I would get a role in the party in AP. Kiran will be the face of the party in the Rayalaseema region Reddys are a dominant community.
Sources said that a Union Minister of Karnataka in the Modi cabinet was playing a key role in bringing to the fold Kiran BJP. Kiran's brother Santosh Reddy is said to be a close friend of the union minister for long.
A mammoth public meeting will be held in Tirupati where Kiran announce his entry into BJP. This meeting will be attended by BJP national president Amit Shah.
