Visakhapatnam: Telangana has become the innocent victim of the devastation caused by Cyclone Hudhud October 12 Telangana state has been reeling under the lack of sufficient energy supply wells in the Khariff season, has not been receiving his 1,110 MW of power Simahdri NTPC Super thermal Energy Project in Visakhapatnam district from day calamity struck.
Not that the center has not been reworked. In fact, you are ready to generate power at its full capacity of 2,000 MW, but the problem is the transmission lines are a mess after cyclone.
"We have restored our first 500 MW unit itself last Thursday. Today, three units of 500 MW each are ready to generate power at full capacity. But they are working only 350 MW capacity each. This is the most low we can go without having to close one unit, "says group CEO power project Asim Kumar Samanta.
Fourth season of Project 500 MW thermal capacity is also ready and authorities are awaiting the approval of the Southern Region Load Dispatch Centre (SRLDC), Bangalore, to start power generation. "The unit is ready. If we get the clearance straighaway can turn the unit on," Samantha said. The plant, with three work units 350 MW is generating 1,050 mw now. The other unit of 500 MW is also ready and our switch yard also have no problem. But to evacuate power generated, the transmission system must be ready. The energy generated in Simhadri station sends through its switch yard 400 kV switch yard Kalapaka APTransco. From there the power is fed to the network.
"As a huge transmission tower had it collapsed Kalapaka, we are not able to take full charge of the energy generated in the thermal power project Super Simhadri. The transmission lines have to be restored. It will take some time" says Energy Secretary Ajay Jain Andhra Pradesh.
He, however, hoped that the infrastructure would be ready within a few days for Simhadri could operate at full capacity.
Meanwhile, the Telangana state is buying energy every day at a price of `7.05 per unit. So far, the state has acquired 157.88 million units this moth, by shelling out `125.48 million rupees. The power utility could satisfy a demand of 141 million units on Tuesday, officials said.
Simhadri Power officials say Super Thermal Project have no role in the distribution of power between AP and Telangana. "Our job is to generate power. Power sharing is done AP Load Dispatch Centre depending on availability and requirement and in accordance with the provisions of the AP State Reorganization Act, 2014," says Samantha.
