JAIPUR: Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, on Friday visited a "cyber village 'in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, an official said.
"Zuckerberg visited cyber village, Chandoli, over 170 km from state capital Jaipur, where he interacted with the school children and villagers and discussed how the center is helping to improve Internet connectivity in the area" a local official said.
The district administration had tried to keep the visit a secret, but the news leaked out.
Zuckerberg spent over half an hour in the village and enjoyed folk songs and music of Rajasthan.
Speaking to the media, said that India is a country of great opportunities. "It's great to know that Chandoli villagers are taking steps to connect to the Internet," he said.
In February this year, the central government has launched a "cyber program '(village) in Chandoli, which has a Muslim population Meo about 70-80%, as a pilot project. The main objective of the project was to educate Internet providing villagers with training.
