The Government of Telangana and Bharti Airtel has tied-launch public Wi-Fi hotspots in Hyderabad. Currently, 17 hotspot locations have been launched on a pilot basis through Hyderabad. These have been established between the Cyber Towers Madhapur police station, Cyber Towers and Cyber Junction to Kothaguda Raheja Towers at Mindspace Circle.
Citizens may use up to 750 MB of data per day per user. Users receive a password once in your mobile number in the connection to the Wi-Fi network, which is used for authentication. What is not clear is whether this is a free service, or if users have to pay a fee, and what is the connection speed.
With 750 MB of data by day users can actually get some work done, unlike access points Wi-Fi launched by the government of Karnataka in Bangalore that provides 30 minutes of free internet daily to a speed of about 512 Kbps.
Not only the state governments, the central government has even more ambitious plans for public Wi-Fi. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is apparently working on a project that will provide services of public Wi-Fi in cities with a population over 1 million. This is part of the digital initiative and India is likely to be a paid service.
The Indian Railways had proposed the introduction of Wi-Fi facilities at stations A1 and category and 50 rakes important trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and duranto, in August this year. He had introduced earlier Wi-Fi installation in 3 rakes Howrah-New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express as a pilot project in April 2013 after initially announcing in February 2011.
Public Wi-Fi record track in India is not something to be proud of, regardless of whether initiated by governments or private actors. While there is no shortage in ads, in regard to the delivery stage most have failed.
Other initiatives of public Wi-Fi
Earlier this year, risk data services Reliance Industries' Reliance Infocomm Jio (RJIL) had also launched free Wi-Fi hotspots in eight locations in nine locations in Ahmedabad and Baroda and Surat.
