Sensing a political opportunity in Tamil Nadu following the conviction of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its efforts to make the superstar Rajinikanth join the party. 

During a visit to the residence Navarathri Mr. Rajinikanth last week Tamilisai Soundararajan, president of the State BJP unit, launched the idea of popular actor of party support his wife Lata Rajinikanth, party sources said. 

BJP sources told the lady went home Soundararajan actor in an invitation from Mrs. Rajinikanth. 

The actor was, however, far shooting for his next film, Linga. 

Ms. Soundararajan invited Mr. Rajinikanth to release a book on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is currently putting the finishing touches. She said the family was going to visit again to discuss the book, when Mr. Rajinikanth returned. They discussed the political situation. 

A senior BJP leader said the party's ideal for roping in someone like Mr. Rajinikanth, which was widely accepted situation felt.

Recalling Mr. Rajinikanth supported the DMK-TMC combine in 1996, the leader said the support of the actor could be a big boost for the fate of the party in Tamil Nadu. 

"Both the AIADMK and DMK are facing corruption charges. Believe there will be a huge leadership vacuum in the coming Assembly elections," said the leader. 

Talk of the BJP trying to get Mr. Rajinikanth on board has been doing the rounds for a while. 

The actor has a positive opinion about the prime minister Narendra Modi, who received it on his Poes Garden residence during the Lok Sabha election campaign in the state. 

Party national president Amit Shah learns he has discussed the possibility of inducing the actor.
