As confusion prevails over the formation of the government in the national capital, the Delhi unit of the BJP is preparing for fresh elections - possibly in February - driven by impressive showing of the party in Haryana and Maharashtra after the resounding verdict Lok Sabha, say sources.

According to a leading senior party, the BJP central leadership is positive to win a comfortable majority in Delhi, courtesy of stellar performance in the Lok Sabha and state elections, along with the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

State leaders have, therefore, been directed to start preparing for fresh elections.

"Recent cuts in fuel prices, the campaigns launched by the PM and to the treatment of Pakistan when the high was violated fire (Jammu and Kashmir) have had an effect on people. All this will help us when we go asking for votes, "said a party leader aware of the information on condition of anonymity.

"We are in the middle and we have done well in state elections. The mood of the nation is displayed and the match is positive that this will have an effect on Delhi also. Therefore, we are preparing ourselves for reelection possibly in February, "he added.

The capital has been without an elected government since February, when the government led by Arvind Kejriwal AAP quit.

The Assembly of Delhi has been in suspended animation and the largest single party, the BJP, has often been accused, especially by the head of the AAP, push and pull to form a government.

BJP leader dismissed the complaint and instead mocked the AAP for its decline in popularity over time.

"We know that we have the numbers to form the government, but we are not talking with other MLAs. Why should we take any step (tug of war) which could harm our image especially when we know that surveys are around the corner ", he asked.

"On the other hand, things have changed dramatically in the past 10 months, and the popularity of the AAP has been on a steady decline. If we manage to get 32 seats last time despite a wave called AAP, let's get easily a clear majority this time, "he added.

The BJP had won 31 of the 70 seats in the Assembly elections held in December 2013, which resulted in a fractured mandate. It also has the support of a lone legislator Akali Dal.

Three BJP legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha in national elections in April-May, bringing the effective strength of the assembly 67.

BJP also count was reduced to 28, 31 but by-polls set for November 25, the party hopes to retain these seats.

"We are not facing a real struggle in these seats in Congress and the AAP. We are confident of winning them. The results also set the tone for fresh polls, possibly in February next year," another senior leader of BJP the state unit said.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has said it would comply with all party leaders to discuss the possibility of the formation of government in the capital within a few days after the Supreme Court criticized the central government led by the BJP for not being sincere in securing a new government in New Delhi, which has been under the rule of President since February 17.

After the expulsion of Vinod Kumar Binny party, the AAP gets 27 legislators.

Congress has eight legislators. There is a separate legislature and one Janata Dal-United.
