Minister of Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said that work on the flyover in Kanakadurga temple begin shortly.
Speaking to media persons at the temple after releasing their calendar, the minister said that the state government had referred the proposed flyover along with the design for the central government for clearance. The State Government was pursuing the issue and expressed confidence that the work would begin in the New Year.
The 2.7 km long high step is initially estimated to cost Rs 180 million rupees and solve traffic problems. The flyover provide free movement of devotees and vehicles headed to the temple Kanakadurga top Indrakeeladri Hill.
The flyover at the temple had been a long pending demand of the people here. The narrow stretch of road between Kummaripalem to Prakasam Barrage has been causing serious vehicular movement in the Hyderabad-Vijayawada road unconvince. Telugu Desam Party had fought for the flyover during the Congress regime and Chandrababu Naidu participated in one of the dharnas held in the city on the subject.
The TDP had the overpass as an election promise. After the elections, Deputy Kesineni Srinivas addressed the issue with the state and central governments. He had series of meetings with officials of the National Highways Authority of India to expedite the process.
