Slamming the derogatory article on the Sri Lankan Government defence website, DMK President M Karunanidhi on Friday demanded that the Centre convey its strong condemnation as it had 'besmirched' both the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Indian Prime Minister. "The Centre should convey its strong condemnation to Sri Lanka. The derogatory article has not only insulted the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, but also the Indian Prime Minister," Karunanidhi said, rallying behind his arch-rival Jayalalithaa on the issue in a rare gesture. Stating that the letters of Chief Minister to the Prime Minister were intended to seek redress and end the travails of Tamil Nadu fishermen, he said, "The denigration of the letters by the Sri Lankan Government will make all to understand the kind of activities it indulges in." All parties in Tamil Nadu had been continuously appealing to the Centre to "not support such a Sri Lankan Government," he noted. Stressing that his party had never supported such derogatory remarks, he added that his party had also never failed to condemn such remarks. "Although we have several differences of opinion with the AIADMK chief, her letters to Prime Minister were intended to end the sufferings of our fishermen," he added.
