The massive operation to locate and arrest controversial 'godman' Rampal cost the exchequer over Rs 26 million rupees, the High Court of Punjab and Haryana on Friday said.
Amid tight security, Rampal took place before a bench of the division of judges M Jeyapaul and Darshan Singh here that adjourned the case until December 23, when Rampal came along with co-accused Ram Pal Dhaka and OP Hooda.
Haryana DGP SN Vashisht presented a detailed report of the operation in Satlok Ashram in Barwala in Hisar leading to the arrest of Rampal after large-scale violence.
The states of Haryana and Punjab, besides the Chandigarh Administration and Union of India reporting of expenses incurred in connection with the operation to arrest Rampal for production in the Supreme Court in contempt case.
According to figures presented by the states, Haryana spent Rs 15.43 million rupees in locating and arresting Rampal, Punjab Rs 4.34 million rupees, administration of Chandigarh Rs 3.29 million rupees and the Union of India Rs Rs 3.55 million, for a total of 26.61 million rupees rupees
The bank requested the Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana, introducing the medical report of the wounded.
The court also asked police to check the background of 909 arrested in connection with violence in the Satlok Ashram in Barwala to stop Rampal.
It has asked the police to determine whether any of those arrested had retired police or military were former or serving in the police and related agencies.
63 years old, Rampal was arrested on November 19 after a tense confrontation of two weeks between his supporters and the police after about 15 thousand of his followers were evacuated from the facilities expansion.
During the confrontation between supporters and police Rampal, five women and one child had died, while more than 200 people were injured in the clashes.
