New Delhi: The Press Council of India has established a three-member committee to investigate allegations that they were prevented reporters from two newspapers to attend press conferences Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Markandey Katju PCI president, has formed a committee, including Rajeev Ranjan Nag journalists as coordinator, and K Amarnath and Prajnananda Chaudhury as members to investigate the matter.
Katju said in his order that had been brought to his attention that "accredited 'Sakshi' newspaper and 'Namaste Telangana' journalists could meet the official press conferences of Andhra Pradesh CM."
Katju, while ordering the probe said on careful consideration of the matter on the basis of representations of the National Union of Journalists (India) and the Union of Journalists of India, which prima facie is believed that restrictions on journalists in the coverage of the press conference affect the freedom of media access and dissemination of news. "
The committee to visit Hyderabad, interact with stakeholders in Hyderabad and elsewhere, and the competent authorities.
