Hyderabad: A 19-year-old engineering student was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver in a secluded area on the outskirts of the city in the adjoining Ranga Reddy district on Tuesday, police said. 

The crime occurred between 10:30 and 11 am, when the young man, a BTech first year student, who is known by Autorickshaw driver Naresh, boarded his vehicle. The accused took her to a secluded area and allegedly raped her, police station SHO P Keesara Guruva Reddy said based on a complaint. 

"The girl took a lift in the car while she had known the auto-pilot Naresh for some time. After the incident, the girl along with other students filed a complaint and based on this, a case of rape has been registered," the police official said. 

A hunt has been launched to catch the accused, while the girl was sent for medical examination, said. Further probe is on, police said.
