New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah was on Wednesday chargesheeted speeech alleged hatred in Muzaffarnagar during the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections this year.
Shah had landed in a controversy for allegedly saying the Lok Sabha polls 2014 were an opportunity to seek "revenge for the insult" inflicted during riots in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh last year.
"If you want to take revenge you should vote for the BJP. Already can not resolve an issue with swords and arrows. Today can take revenge by voting for the BJP."
The chargesheet was filed against 49-year-old Shah in a court here for allegedly seeking votes on the basis of religion, race, caste and community.
The deputy PS Mandi Circle New here Yogender Singh said the chargesheet has been filed under various sections of IPC, including 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, etc), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) and 505 (false statements, rumors etc circulated with the intent to cause mutiny or offense against public peace), and Section 123-3 of the Representation of Persons Act (an appeal to vote on grounds of religion, amounting to corrupt practice).
The police had registered a case against Shah for allegedly violating the model code address following the Electoral Commission, which was also forbidden to campaign in the state on April 4, 2014.
The FIR was filed against the Shah in the police station for New Mandi district official and the case was handed over to Sub-Inspector BL Shah for investigation.
Noting the "revenge" observation Shah, the EC had issued a notice to him by the prima facie violation of the model code. Shah had denied having violated the model code and requested the EC to reconsider its notice to him alleging that the comments were not recorded in the proper perspective. The ban was later lifted it.
