The city of Visakhapatnam has the potential to become the health center of Andhra Pradesh, Director of Medical Education G. Santa Rao said.

He also said that a sum of Rs. 150 million rupees Pradhan Mantri in Swasthya Suraksha Yojana has been sanctioned and the state government is given another Rs. 30 million rupees for the improvement of existing Government General Hospitals in Anantapur and Vijayawada, in the first phase installations. 

"In the second phase, which will deal with hospitals in Kakinada, Guntur, Kurnool and Visakhapatnam," Santa said Dr. Rao. 

As a pilot project the government is in the process of creating a dialysis free Tekkali specialty, to address kidney ailment Uddanam region. The mental health care, the Director said that plans are afoot to take the treatment beyond the walls of hospitals. "We have plans to start counseling centers and addiction in each district. We are also preparing IEC materials to raise awareness of the abuse of alcohol and drugs," he said. 

In medical education, said that a proposal has been sent to the 14th Finance Commission to improve existing facilities and infrastructure and care would fill vacancies.
