Minister of Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao told reporters Monday that Polavaram Right channel would be completed within the next eight months and raising would be used to supply water for irrigation through this channel on the twin Godavari districts.
He said about 80 tmcft Godavari river water could exploit in less than a year, lifting the main channel just before the construction of the project was completed.
"Whenever there is a shortage of water in the delta of Krishna, we can make use of water providing the right channel Polavaram. No region will be deprived of drinking water as we are building the project only to the 2249-2500 tmc of water that has hitherto been going to waste, "said Umamaheswara Rao.
"Under the land acquisition program, a special package will be offered to people in seven villages who gave their land for Polavaram project. The collectors in the two districts are interacting with farmers in these villages and package for them will be announced shortly after talks with the CM, "said the minister.
