A Marine University will soon be opened in Andhra Pradesh, Minister for Excise and BC Welfare K Ravindra said.
Speaking on the occasion of the World Day of fishing on Friday Ravindra said the state would have a Marine University to promote interdisciplinary studies in marine science education and Fisheries.
He said that currently export Marines stand at Rs 17,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh and now the government is trying to raise Rs 75,000 crore.
The minister also said that the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for the fishermen housing scheme in addition to the state government sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh for construction of new homes under the Plan model Fishermen village.
Members of the Fisheries Department officials and fishermen cooperative society attended the event.
