Having lost power earlier this year when they faced the threat of being shelved, MMTS Phase II works are back on track, with officials optimistic about their timely completion.
Phase II was originally scheduled to begin this January, but was delayed when one partner withdrew from the joint venture. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the Indian Railways arm responsible for implementing the project, with rope on GMR Infra and Tata Projects join existing socio Kalindee Nirman. Since August, when work began almost one lakh cubic meters of earth work has been completed.
20 new bridges
"The works of Phase II are happening between Moula Ali and Sanathnagar and Ghatkesar-Cherlapalli. At 20 locations, works of bridges, including the construction of new bridges, is progressing," chief project manager RVNL P. Srinivas said.
Phase II of MMTS improve connectivity between Ghatkesar and Sanathnagar through Moula Ali (37 km), Bolarum-Medchal (14 km), Falaknuma-Umdanagar (14 km). The connectivity of Moula Ali al Sanathnagar will ignore Secunderabad station, providing much needed relief to passengers during peak hours.
Phase II will also see five new railway stations arise between Sanathnagar and Moula Ali. A new railway line was placed between Tellapur and Ramachandrapuram (4.5 km) and the existing railway line between Secunderabad and Bolarum, it is not energized, electrified under Rs. 819 million rupees Phase II project.
Rs 60 cr. This year for the project
Mr. Srinivas said that Rs. Rs 60 million has been earmarked this financial year for the project, which will receive two-thirds of funding from the state and the rest of downtown.
RVNL and South Central Railway (SCR) officials are optimistic to complete the construction phase II works within three years. In phase I of MMTS, SCR currently operates 121 transport services 1.5 lakh people on a daily basis. When completed, Phase I and II to five lakh passengers daily are met, an official said.
