Two City police seized 16 kg of gold biscuits being transported in a vehicle in Kurnool on Tuesday.
During a routine inspection, the police submitted a Tata Sumo (KA 02C 9895) vehicle for a checkup and found gold biscuits. Two persons identified as Umar SP Khatri and Manjunath, who were in the vehicle, could not offer a satisfactory explanation of the ownership of gold.
It revealed that a local bullion dealer was caters Rasi Gold Jewelers in Bangalore.
SP A. Ravikrishna, who reviewed the case, said that if the owners did not produce valuable proper documents, the matter is referred to other tax authorities, as it was a clear case of violation of tax.
Additional SP Manohar Rao, Inspector Babu Prasad and others were present.
