New Delhi: Indian Railways on Wednesday reported an increase of 12.02 per cent in its total income for the first six months of the current fiscal year, which stood at Rs 73,403.67 crore from Rs 65,525.85 crore in the same period last year.
According to railways, real total income increased from Rs 44162.15 crore during April 1 to September 30, 2013 to Rs 48771.58 crore during April 1 to September 30, 2014, registering an increase of 10.44 per percent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during April-September 2014 was Rs 21,079.09 crore compared to Rs 18,099.80 crore in the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.46 percent, according to the statement.
Gains income from other coaching amounted to Rs 1979.91 crore during April 1 to September 30, 2014, compared to Rs.1,850.17 crore in the same period last year, an increase of 7.01 percent.
The total number of passengers booked during the period under review was 4253.32 million compared to 4255.81 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.06 percent.
