Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has issued a notification to acquire biodiesel through open tenders, according to a statement issued Thursday.
All deposits in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh operate buses using biodiesel on a large scale, the statement APSRTC. The measure aims to reduce fuel costs and mounting environmental conservation. Currently, 50 million rupees APSRTC consume liters of high speed diesel per year and the replacement of 10 percent of the same with biodiesel about 30 crore per year would be saved, according to the statement.
The State Road Transport Corporation (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) spent Rs 2.367 million rupees on high speed diesel only during the year 2013-14 and increased prices of high speed diesel had become a heavy burden, the statement .
The APSRTC had used biodiesel in 19 tanks piloted from 2008 to 2010, but biodiesel manufacturers were unwilling to provide the APSRTC at economically viable prices due to high prices of raw materials and escalating production costs .
