Karnataka government on Friday announced cash awards for Commonwealth Games 2014 medallists from the state Vikas Gowda and Prakash Nanjappa. CWG Special; Medals Table; Photos Karnataka sports minister K Abhayachandra Jain today announced that Vikas will be given Rs 25 lakhs and Nanjappa Rs 15 lakhs for winning gold and silver medals respectively at the ongoing CWG 2014 in Glasgow. Vikas won gold in men's discus throw event yesterday (July 31) while last week, Nanjappa took silver in 10m Air Pistol shooting event. (Also read: Inspirational story of Nanjappa) "Vikas Gowda and Prakash Nanjappa have done the country and state proud by winning gold and silver at Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Their achievements will inspire the youth of the state. I, on behalf of Department of Youth Services and Sports and the government, congratulate them for these outstanding achievements," Abhayachandra said in a press release. "I have already spoken to both Vikas Gowda and Prakash Nanjappa on the phone and congratulated them," he added. They will be honoured by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with cash awards of Rs 25 lakhs and Rs 15 lakhs in Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, the minister said.
