Chandrababu Naidu Chief Minister declares a gift package consisting of staples will supply all below the poverty line (BPL) families in Andhra Pradesh as 2015 Pongal gifts.

The bag contains ingredients [palm oil (500 ml), wheat flour (one kilo), bengal gram (500 g), Channa (one kilo), brown sugar (500 g) and ghee (100 g)], that help people celebrate the festival in a traditional manner and Government decided to assume a cost of Rs 220 per family. A charge of Rs 287 million rupees will fall on the state treasury to deliver the gift pack to about 1.3 crore BPL families in the state.

TDP Government plans to continue this scheme gift pack before all the big festivals such as those held by Muslim and Christian communities in the state. The proposal to give new for holders of pensions at major festivals clothes are under consideration.
