Viridhunagar: A class eight student was stabbed to death in her classroom in a school in Tamil Nadu this morning.

Police said the attacker, presumably a young man from the same village as the student, joined the Government Higher Secondary School Virudhnagar Pandhalkudi in the district, and stabbed him before school started.

The attacker is on the run.

"They seem to have had a dispute in the village. We are investigating," said a police officer of high rank.

The school was closed immediately. Students and their parents organized a protest.
