Parbhani (Maharashtra): Police have seized Rs.4.85 lakh Maharashtra a car that allegedly belonged to the Nationalist Congress Party high (NCP) leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar State, an official said Wednesday.
Police also seized some business cards and clothing from the intercepted vehicle Pawar along with money hidden in two bags, Parbhani Superintendent of Police Anant Rokde told media.
Pawar and his assistants were not available for comment on the matter, despite NCP senior officials maintained they were unaware of the incident.
The driver has been identified as Krishna Hazare, who informed the police that the clothes belong to Pawar and a helper.
While a bag in the car, proceeding to Latur to Parbhani when he was stopped in Gangakhed, had 400,000 rupees in cash, clothing and cards Pawar, another bag containing personal items and an assistant Rs.85,000 cash.
No case was registered till late Wednesday night, but Rokde said the matter has been referred to the state election department for action.
Police have seized more than Rs 5 crore cash in seven incidents across the state so far. The money was allegedly intended to be used to influence voters in assembly elections October 15.
